Elderly Erbendorfer relishes panoramic vistas from a glider aircraft
In a remarkable display of courage and curiosity, 91-year-old Anton Seiler became the oldest passenger ever transported by the Steinwald Gliding Club. The extraordinary event took place at the DDZ 21 airfield in Erbendorf, the home base of the club.
Mr. Seiler, who was born in 1924, has had a lifelong fascination with aviation, a passion that was ignited by the sight of a Douglas DC-3 plane. Despite never having been in a glider before, he expressed a desire to experience gliding for himself.
The flight, which was a surprise organised by his daughter for his 91st birthday, took place under clear skies with calm winds, providing the perfect conditions for an unforgettable experience. Michaela Kraus, the chairwoman of the Steinwald Gliding Club, was thrilled about Mr. Seiler's flight and was proud to have him as a member.
Seiler's flight with the Steinwald Gliding Club lasted approximately 20 minutes. During this time, he was transported to the skies, where he was impressed by the view and sensation of gliding. Mr. Seiler described his flight experience as "fantastic" and feeling like a bird flying high above the world.
The members of the Steinwald Gliding Club consider Mr. Seiler a role model due to his activity and curiosity. His flight serves as an inspiration to all, demonstrating that age is no barrier to new experiences and the pursuit of lifelong dreams.
Mr. Seiler, now a member of the Steinwald Gliding Club, found a new avenue for his lifelong passion for aviation, experiencing the thrill of outdoor-living through gliding. In the tranquil home-and-garden setting of DDZ 21 airfield, he discovered yet another chapter in the book of his other, extraordinary lifestyle.
