On the weekend, an alliance is planning an epic rave to raise some ruckus against the expansion of the A100 motorway in the southeast corner of Berlin. Over 5,000 individuals have signed up for this stationary demonstration at Elsenstraße, Puschkinallee, and Am Treptower Park, in the Treptow-Köpenick district, according to the organizers.
Things kick off with a family-friendly bash in the afternoon, but don't worry, the music doesn't stop there! Once the sun goes down, tunes will be blastin' on ten stages. The feisty lineup includes clubs like "Else" and "About Blank", as well as various collectives. Keep an eye out for numerous bike demos making their way to the gathering spot from various districts. This event is fueled by the alliance "A100 wegbassen," which also includes the citizens' initiative A100, Fridays for Future, and the Clubcommission Berlin.
Section 16 of the A100 is set to open its doors at the start of September. The urban road network will connect to the new motorway section via three exits - Grenzallee, Sonnenallee, and Am Treptower Park.
Environmentalists have been waging war against the motorway extension for years. Their crosshairs are also trained on section 17, which, as per plans by the Federal Ministry of Transport, is going to be built in the coming years from Treptower Park over the Spree and through Friedrichshain towards Lichtenberg. Alas, the outcome of these plans remains unclear.
