Delighting in Tina Fey's The Four Seasons on Netflix, Yet Acknowledging Its Emotional Impact I Don't Quite Appreciate
Getting Real with The Four Seasons 🍁🌺🍃🌱🎉
Let me start by saying, I'm knee-deep into binge-watching Tina Fey's The Four Seasons on Netflix, but I ain't finished the whole shebang just yet. My plan was to knock it out over the weekend and have a polished review ready, but I gotta admit, this series has me hooked, but also a little stressed about approaching middle age. It's like I love the show, but hate how it makes me feel! And hey, let's get this party started!
Now, I haven't hit the big 5-0 quite yet, but I'm no spring chicken either. These days, I'm constantly hitting my health insurance deductible, and it ain't uncommon to wake up with a creaky ol' neck that ain't movin' right. Add to that the whole house and yard maintenance malarkey, and I'm about as far from being a carefree child as a person can get.
The Four Seasons rings true for me, hitting on all cylinders for the adult struggles that I, and plenty of my peers, will likely be dealing with soon enough. It's the tale of a crew of pals who've been in each other's lives for ages, but now they're grappling with new trials in the changing tides of their lives. They've got the partners, the careers, and the fancy homes and hot rods, but they've lost their freakin' way in their personal lives. And that ain't my idea of a comedy, but trust me – with Tina Fey's razor-sharp wit weaved throughout, it's got some real laugh-out-loud moments that'll leave you with a hearty chuckle.
Now, while I'd give the remake of the Alan Alda film a thumbs up, I can't lie – it's messing with my head a little bit. The realism in the dialogue and the situations have me feeling like I'm in a constant state of dishevelment. It's akin to facing all the depressing stuff that happens in real life, like when I see friends stuck on their phones instead of interacting or feeling stuck in the same old boring routine. It's a trip, man. That's why I can't manage more than an episode or two at a time.
One thing I love about The Four Seasons is that it's all about catching up with the gang across four seasons, as the title creatively implies. It's a slick way to tie the whole story together, and I hope other series follow suit. The acting performances are out of this world, and it's an added bonus to see Alan Alda pop up for a cameo. I'm stoked I checked out the Netflix lineup and gave this new series a whirl – just don't tell the good folks at Netflix I said that!
The last twelve months have been one emotional rollercoaster for me, filled with uncomfortable content. I also recently sat through Friendship, which gave me the heebie-jeebies in a different sort of way. Seems like uncomfortable content might be the new norm, and I gotta admit, I ain't sure I'm ready for it. Then again, with The Four Seasons already renewed for a second season, I guess I ain't got much of a choice.
The Four Seasons is top-notch entertainment, but don't go expectin' a barrel of laughs, folks! 🍻💥💎🚀💔💔💔💔💔💔💔🤘🤘🤘🌱🌱🌱🌱
