Delhi Introduces Full-Day Electric AC Tourist Bus Service from August 15, 2025

Delhi is set to revolutionize tourism with the introduction of a full-day air-conditioned electric bus tour, starting on August 15, 2025. The service, a part of the city's commitment to becoming a smart and environmentally friendly travel destination, will begin as a pilot with three to four nine-metre "DEVI" buses, each accommodating approximately 30 passengers.

The tour will commence at Baba Kharak Singh Marg, a convenient location near major public transport hubs. The itinerary will cover key tourist spots in Delhi, including Qutub Minar, Kartavya Path, Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya (Prime Minister's Museum), National War Memorial, and Lotus Temple.

Each bus will pause at every major location for at least one hour, allowing tourists to explore on foot. The tour aims to promote Delhi as a tourist destination for diverse visitors, catering to various cultural and linguistic backgrounds. A trained tourist guide will accompany passengers, and an audio translation system will offer commentary in multiple languages.

If the trial projects are successful, the service might expand to include theme-based circuits such as marketplaces, museums, cuisine, and heritage. However, initial plans to introduce six theme-based circuits focusing on heritage monuments, food streets, markets, shopping malls, and museums were shelved before the launch of the consolidated full-day tour covering major landmarks.

The electric AC tourist bus service includes CCTV and emergency features similar to standard DEVI buses, ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers. The tour could potentially offer activities suitable for children, making it an ideal family outing. Special external branding will be incorporated into the bus design to enhance Delhi's tourism image.

The project builds on plans first outlined before the G20 Summit. If demand is high, DTTDC intends to increase the fleet and add more routes. The tickets for the tour are expected to cost INR 500 per adult and INR 300 for children aged six to twelve. Children under six will travel free.

The service might develop into other theme-based circuits, including attractions related to the Partition Museum and Delhi's historical tombs. As of mid-2025, Delhi has more than 1,700 electric buses in service and plans to add 2,080 by the end of the year, making it the city with the largest fleet of electric buses in India.

The initiative aims to revive guided city sightseeing using modern, sustainable transport. By supporting Delhi's goal to become a smart and environmentally friendly travel destination by the end of the decade, the electric bus tour service is a significant step towards a greener, more accessible future for Delhi's tourism industry.

  1. In 2025, Delhi's tourism industry will see a sustainable shift with the introduction of full-day electric bus tours, featuring air-conditioned vehicles and accommodating diverse visitors.
  2. As part of Delhi's goal to become a smart and environmentally friendly city, the tourism department plans to expand the service to include theme-based circuits, such as those focusing on home-and-garden, sustainable-living, or cars, specifically electric-vehicles.
  3. The finance sector is expected to play a crucial role in the growth of Delhi's tourism industry as the demand for electric bus tours increases, potentially leading to the expansion of the fleet and the addition of more routes.
  4. The lifestyle transformation in Delhi will not only cater to visitors but also promote local attractions, such as the Partition Museum and historical tombs, through themed electric tour buses, fostering a more holistic and connected transportation system.
