Cycling spectacle spans over 40 kilometers across Rödinghausen municipality

The Herford District in North Rhine-Westphalia recently conducted a bike traffic inspection, marking a significant step towards improving cycling conditions in the region. The inspection tour, which covered approximately 40 kilometres, began at the Haus des Gastes at Pemberville Platz 1. The route included various areas such as Bruchmühlen, Ostkilver, Schwenningdorf, and Bieren. The cities and municipalities in the selection area for bicycle traffic monitoring in the Herford District in recent months include Herford, Hiddenhausen, Löhne, Enger, and Vlotho. The inspection focused on various aspects, including the visibility and stability of traffic signs, the condition of roads and paths, height differences between roadways and shoulders, and possible restrictions of the field of vision. The Herford District has been admitted to the "Working Group of pedestrian and bicycle-friendly cities, municipalities, and districts in North Rhine-Westphalia e.V." (AGFS NRW) due to its commitment to enhancing cycling infrastructure. Safety measures such as the elimination of accident hotspots, the installation of digital dialogue displays (speed displays), and the newly established bike traffic inspections were decisive criteria for this recognition. Last year, the district was officially recognized for its cyclist-friendly conditions. The inspection, conducted at regular intervals, also includes night traffic inspections, level crossing inspections, and signage inspections. Participants in the bicycle traffic inspection included the Road Traffic Office, the Department of Traffic Routes and Green Spaces of the district, representatives of the police, Landesbetrieb Straßenbau NRW, and the municipality of Rödinghausen. Uwe Nolte, responsible for the areas of traffic safety, accident commission, and traffic guidance measures at the Road Traffic Office in the Herford district, led the inspection. In addition to the inspections, the Herford District offers cycling safety training for pedelec and e-bike users in cooperation with the District Sports Association and the police. The district also provides maps for various cycling routes in its Geoportal, allowing citizens to retrieve or calculate their desired routes. The maintenance and expansion of the intermunicipal bicycle route network with high comfort and safety for cyclists were honoured during the inspection. The Herford District has established bike traffic inspections as a part of its safety measures. The latest bike traffic inspection in the Herford district took place in Rödinghausen on September 12, 2025. The installation of digital dialogue displays (speed displays) is among the safety measures implemented in the Herford District. The last bike traffic inspections in the Herford district were several years ago, making this event a significant milestone in the district's commitment to improving cycling conditions.
