Crispy, Oil-Less French Fries Recipe Unveiled
There's no need for fancy names like "oil-less fryers." Air fryers is the name that sticks, mate! Air fryers are the bomb, and here's why:
They're not just for frying potatoes, although that's a damn good reason! Air fryers cook a variety of dishes, from grilled meats to vegetable skewers, even cakes, and all while taking up much less space than a traditional oven.
Now, you might be thinking, "air fryers, they're just an oil-free deep fryer, aye?" Well, yes and no. While a bit of fat is essential to achieve crispy fries, a single tablespoon of oil is enough for 500 grams of potatoes, which isn't half bad compared to traditional deep-fried fries that can contain 4 to 6 times more fat.
We tested several air fryers to see which one is the best, and our favorite stands out—the Philips Essential Airfryer L. its fries (both fresh and frozen) were unanimously appreciated by the tasting jury, and it's also the most compact model in our selection. This minimalist fryer features a uniform black coating and blend in well on the kitchen counter, but stands out with its efficiency.
The Philips Essential Airfryer L has a user-friendly touchscreen display on the front, which is hardly noticeable when the appliance is off. The control panel displays pictograms corresponding to the most classic recipes, and automatically adjusts the temperature and cooking time for you.
The Ninja Air MAX AF160EU is our pick for best value-for-money. This model is less expensive, and its basket is huge, allowing you to prepare almost 1.5 kg of fries in one batch! Although the quality of its fries doesn't match those produced by the Philips, the result is still satisfying, making it perfect for large families! The Ninja Air MAX AF160EU is hard to miss, as it's 37 cm tall. The jury didn't appreciate its aesthetics, ranking it last in that category. However, it redeems itself in taste, ranking second for the texture of fresh fries and the flavor of frozen ones.
Now, talk about skills—the Ninja Air MAX has a standout feature, the capacity of its basket, which can hold 1 kg of fries. In theory, that's the case, as in practice, we managed to fit 1,350 grams of frozen fries without reaching the maximum capacity. You just need to add an extra half tablespoon of oil and stir the fries twice during cooking.
Each air fryer we tested has a control panel with several automatic cooking modes, making them versatile and perfect for any cooking needs. So, grab yourself an air fryer - it's the best investment you'll ever make in your kitchen!
