Construction in Victory Square sparks dismay among actor's kin

In the heart of Aktau, Kazakhstan, a stir has been caused among locals, as reported by Lada.kz. The source of this commotion is the construction of a new commercial bus stop with a mobile pavilion in Victory Park, located in the 7th microdistrict.

Kanat Abdiev, a local eco-activist, has been making waves in the community with his underwater clean-up efforts in the Caspian Sea. His brave dives, documented in a viral video, show him retrieving plastic bottles, tires, and other household waste from the sea bed. Yet, it seems that the focus has shifted from environmental conservation to a different issue: the construction of a bus stop near the Eternal Flame, monuments to veterans of Afghanistan, and liquidators of Chernobyl.

The city administration claims that the project follows all norms, but the residents are far from convinced. Many believe that a capital building, not a mobile pavilion, is being constructed, which has led to concerns about the bus stop's impact on the park's conceptual meaning.

Victory Park is a place of memory and respect, a sanctuary where the community comes to honour its heroes. The construction of a commercial object, as stated by a resident, is seen as a disruption to this solemn atmosphere. The previous arrangement, where passengers waited for the bus under open sky without a canopy or benches, seems to be more in keeping with the park's original intent.

The controversy has sparked outrage among Aktau residents, with Lada.kz reporting on the issue on its Instagram page on August 14. The video of Abdiev's underwater clean-up effort, shared by Kaznet, has saddened many, serving as a stark reminder of the environmental issues that the community faces, while the construction of the bus stop has highlighted concerns about the preservation of public spaces.

This incident underscores the importance of conceptual integrity, community engagement, and careful consideration of a project's aesthetic and utilitarian impact when making changes to public spaces. As the construction continues, it will be interesting to see how the city administration addresses these concerns and whether they can find a solution that respects the park's historical and cultural significance while meeting the practical needs of the community.
