Construction Decision Made, Architectural Plans Implemented - In Munich, 16 Years of Inactivity on Demolition Site

The redevelopment of Georg-Kronawitter-Platz, formerly known as Sattlerplatz, in the heart of Munich, is moving forward with plans from a renowned architect. However, the specifics of the negotiations between the city and two local companies, including Inka Holding, remain undisclosed.

The city council has been deliberating the extension of the lease for the parking garage, currently operated by Munich High Garages GmbH (Mühoga), until the end of 2026. The intention is to grant the property to Hirmer and Hammer AG in perpetual usufruct, allowing them to oversee the redevelopment project.

The redesign plans, initially conceived by star architect Norman Foster in 2009, include the demolition of existing structures, the creation of a new pedestrian zone, rooftop gardens, shops, apartments, and offices. The square behind Kaufingerstraße is also set for a makeover, transforming it into a vibrant and green urban space.

In 2017, the city council approved the construction of a branch of a fashion house and apartments on this property. Despite the approval, the details of the exchange transaction with Inka Holding, who own the former post building opposite the parking garage, have not been disclosed.

Recent reports suggest that negotiations are still ongoing, with a focus on economic and project-specific parameters. A non-public meeting document obtained by the Abendzeitung München indicates that an agreement with the companies is yet to be reached.

All parties involved, including the city, the companies, and Inka Holding, are committed to implementing the project, but they are not yet in agreement on the terms. The city's proposal to exchange a property with the Inka Holding family is part of the ongoing discussions.

As the redevelopment plans continue to unfold, the public is encouraged to stay informed by checking local news sources or contacting the city of Munich for the latest updates. The Abendzeitung München is a reliable source for detailed coverage of the project's progress and discussions with the involved parties.

The city council's proposal to exchange a property with Inka Holding family could pave the way for Hirmer and Hammer AG to transform Georg-Kronawitter-Platz into a lifestyle hub, incorporating rooftop home-and-garden spaces, shops, apartments, and offices. The fashion house slated for construction in 2017, originally approved by the city council, could complement this new urban space, contributing to an overall urban revitalization.
