In the heart of Germany, the city of Mühlheim am Main has been shaped by the tireless efforts of one remarkable individual - Eleonore Blocher. A Swiss national who has called Mühlheim home for many years, Blocher was recently honoured with the Bronze Honorary Plaque for her decades of voluntary service.
Blocher's journey in Mühlheim began in 2013 when she was awarded the Mühlentaler prize for her services to the common good. Since then, she has been a driving force behind numerous initiatives, particularly in the field of refugee aid. One of her most significant contributions was the establishment of the goods donation distribution centre at the Contact Centre, providing needy people, including refugees, with daily necessities free of charge.
In 2014, Blocher played a significant role in the establishment of voluntary refugee work in Mühlheim. Her warm-hearted manner, which conveys a sense of welcome to refugees, was praised by Bernd Klotz, councilor and chairman of the support association. Klotz noted that Blocher's commitment sets an example and shapes local structures in a special way.
Blocher's efforts in refugee aid were further highlighted in 2016 when she received the State of Hesse's Honorary Letter. During the presentation, her work was emphasised as a testament to her dedication and compassion. The following year, she was awarded the State Prize for Social Citizenship, an honour that recognised her significant contributions to society.
Mayor Dr. Alexander Krey also praised Blocher's voluntary commitment, stating that it sets an example and shapes local structures in a special way. Beyond refugee work, Blocher has been active in citizen and senior aid, as well as in the 1st Ski and Leisure Club for years.
Until May 2024, Blocher served as the vice-chairperson of the support association. On September 24, 2024, she was honoured with the Bronze Honorary Plaque, a symbol of gratitude and recognition for her work in various areas of social engagement.
Blocher's story serves as a testament to the power of individual action and the difference one person can make in their community. Her work continues to inspire and shape Mühlheim am Main, making it a more welcoming and supportive place for all its residents.
