City hall expresses gratitude for your dedication towards the 2025 honorary service.
In the heart of Dormagen, the city administration hosted the Volunteer Awards 2025 on August 31 at Kulturhof Knechtsteden. The event, sponsored by TSV Bayer Dormagen e.V., brought together more than 500 volunteers to celebrate their commitment and hard work.
Mayor Erik Lierenfeld, in his opening speech, highlighted the importance of volunteering in Dormagen, stating, "Volunteering is highly valued in our city." He went on to mention the BrotZeit NRW project as an example of new volunteer initiatives, providing a free breakfast for children at three elementary schools daily.
The event featured a musical program by Michael Singendonk and a special performance by Jürgen "Archie" Deneke, who performed as Udo Lindenberg. The Senior Lunch Tables, an initiative where senior citizens have the opportunity to engage in conversation and exchange ideas over a meal once a week in ten districts, was another topic of discussion. Erik Lierenfeld emphasised the expansion of this initiative in the city area.
Bernd Gellrich from Diakonie and Martin Voigt from Currenta were among the attendees, demonstrating the wide-ranging support for volunteering in the community. The Stadtbad- and Verkehrsgesellschaft (SVGD) also supported the event, with information booths offering information on further volunteering opportunities.
The event's reception offered opportunities for encounters and conversations, fostering a sense of camaraderie among the volunteers. A large drone photo of all guests and organizers was taken during the event, capturing the spirit of the evening.
TSV Bayer Dormagen e.V. was present and distributed free tickets for the next handball second division team's home game. A photo gallery of the event can be found at www.our website/photo gallery.
Mayor Lierenfeld closed the event by thanking volunteers for their commitment, reiterating the city's appreciation for their dedication to making Dormagen a better place. The Volunteer Awards 2025 was a testament to the power of volunteering and the positive impact it has on the community.
