City conducts survey on transport habits of 5000 households
The city of Bergisch Gladbach is set to conduct a mobility survey, aiming to provide valuable insights into the mobility behaviour of its residents. The survey, to be carried out by the engineering firm Helmert from Aachen, will help in understanding the distribution of all routes of the population to different means of transport, known as the modal split.
The survey, scheduled to begin in the coming months, will be completed by the start of the autumn holidays. Participants will have the option to take part via a digital questionnaire, a paper questionnaire, or a telephone interview. A total of 5,000 randomly selected households will receive the survey.
The modal split is of significance as conclusions can be drawn about the sustainability of the traffic system. The data collected will be anonymized before further processing, with information on the starting point and destination of routes aggregated at the level of statistical districts. The data obtained from the survey will form an important basis for future traffic planning.
The last data collected in this way in Bergisch Gladbach dates back to the year 2014. The final report on the survey is expected in the first quarter of 2026, providing a comprehensive overview of the city's current traffic composition, including pedestrian and cyclist shares.
The city is concerned with promoting the means of transport of the environmental association (pedestrian, bicycle, and public transport). The results of the survey will be analysed and presented by the engineering office Helmert. More information about the survey can be found at www.bergischgladbach.de/umfrage.
The mobility behavior of all household members will be queried for a specific reference day. The data obtained from the survey will serve as a basis for other traffic-related planning decisions, helping to shape the city's future mobility landscape.
In conclusion, the mobility survey in Bergisch Gladbach is an essential step towards understanding the city's current traffic composition and promoting sustainable mobility solutions. Residents are encouraged to participate in the survey to contribute to the city's future traffic planning.
