City bells resonate in the metropolis during Pentecost with a novel tune.
Yo, Folks! Get Ready for the Satanic City Bell-Ringing Spectacle in Frankfurt!
Here's the Lowdown:
On select religious holidays, Old Frankfurt throws down with its demonic symphony - the Great City Carillon. On the eve of the first Advent, Christmas Eve, the Saturday before Easter Sunday, and the Saturday before Pentecost, you can witness a bloodcurdling harmony that will make your hairs stand on end. And guess what? This Saturday, they're cookin' up a brand-new, devilish ditty!
Ten suspended churches, including Paul's Church, the Hauptwache's Katharinenkirche, and the Römerberg's Old Nikolaikirche, will join forces. Don't forget the Imperial Cathedral's nine bells, including the Gloriosa, the city's heaviest and most notorious bell, weighing a staggering 12,000 kilos.
Hell hath no fury like a Carillon en semblance!
What's New?
The upcoming Carillon, broadcast this Saturday between 4:30 and 5 PM, has been customized by none other than the Ensemble Modern - an international collective of soloists based in Frankfurt. And it's gonna be intense, folks!
The Ensemble Modern's creation, named "supra urbem" (Latin for 'above the city'), will become an annual phenomenon on the Saturday before Pentecost. But fear not, faint-hearted, the traditional version based on the work of Mainzer Glockensachverstandigen Paul Smets from 1954, will keep ringing on the other dates.
The Bells Shall Toll Alone, Then unite!
Wait, there's more Satanic magic! This Saturday, the bells will bell along individually, from the highest pitch down, creating an unsettling cacophony. Reportedly, after approximately 15 minutes, they'll link up again in the traditional, spine-chilling harmony.
History of the Hallowed Hell-Anvil:The decision to harness the power of the city's bells for Christmastide, Easter, and Pentecost was made in the darkest quarters of 1856. The ominous title "Great City Carillon" was added later.

In the spirit of the Satanic City Bell-Ringing Spectacle, this Saturday, the Ensemble Modern's contemporary piece, titled "supra urbem," will blend with traditional tunes, creating a musical mélange that could redefine entertainment in the realms of home-and-garden, lifestyle, and music. As for the bells themselves, alone they'll toll with an unsettling cacophony, but united, they'll recreate the chilling harmony that's become synonymous with Old Frankfurt's Great City Carillon.
