Church Marks Milestone 75th Anniversary in Fargo: Messiah Lutheran Church
Messiah Lutheran Church Celebrates 75th Anniversary
Messiah Lutheran Church in Fargo is gearing up for its 75th anniversary celebration on September 21, 2020. The event will commemorate the church's rich history and honour the vision of its original 100 charter members and the generations that have kept the church's ministries going.
The congregation of Messiah Lutheran Church traces its roots back to a Sunday School mission supported by Fargo's Elim Lutheran Church. Elim Lutheran Church, founded by Swedish Lutherans in 1891, played a crucial role in the establishment of Messiah Lutheran Church, although further information about the specific Swedish Lutherans involved is not available.
The church is well-known for "The Hour of Worship," a televised service that began in 1967 and airs across North Dakota, neighbouring states, and Canada. The service can be watched at 11 a.m. Sundays on WDAY-TV in Fargo-Moorhead.
The theme for the 75th anniversary is "The faith of a few is a blessing for many," inviting the community to join the celebration. The anniversary celebration will begin with worship at 9 a.m. on September 21, 2020, at 2010 Elm St. N.
A 10:30 a.m. program will include music, historical highlights, and an open mic for members and guests to share memories. At 11:30 a.m., a catered meal will be served featuring Swedish meatballs, a nod to Elim Lutheran's role in helping launch the church.
Meal tickets for the celebration are $10 per person or $25 per family and can be purchased through the church office or at www.messiahfargo.com. The anniversary committee chair is Erik Eide.
The church's ministries include worship, outreach, and service. More details about the celebration's activities are yet to be announced. Stay tuned for more updates!
