Breathtaking Prize-Winning Light Show Unveiled at Gasometer Oberhausen
The 'Appearance of Beauty' exhibition, running until 1 November 2015 at Gasometer Oberhausen, offers a unique experience with its centrepiece, the light and sound installation '320° Licht'. This captivating spectacle, which can be dipped into and out of at any time, has been awarded the German lighting design prize in the art category for 2015.
Created by URBANSCREEN, a Bremen art collective, '320° Licht' transforms the Gasometer's vast interior into a dynamic and interactive environment. The installation utilizes the world's largest projection surface, creating a 360-degree projection (though it is titled '320° Licht') that immerses visitors in a breathtaking visual spectacle.
The projections, focusing on monochrome, high-contrast geometric animations, constantly transform the sense of space within the gas holder. The imaginary architecture in '320° Licht' is joined by gentle, flowing waves whose movements recall the space's original function. The projections create a sense of depth and realism that breaks down the 'fourth wall' for the viewer, making it an extraordinary immersive experience.
'320° Licht' covers a surface area of almost 20,000m2, making it one of the largest indoor projections in the world. The loop for '320° Licht' lasts approximately 22 minutes. The 'Appearance of Beauty' exhibition, which includes '320° Licht', is open from Tuesday to Sunday, between 10am to 6pm, until 1 November.
The German lighting design prize has been conferred since 2011 for urban and architectural light installations of exceptional quality. '320° Licht' is a standout attraction in the world of light art and interactive exhibitions, showcasing the innovative use of light and sound by URBANSCREEN. The installation is an hommage to the breathtaking sense of space and architectural impact of the former Oberhausen gas holder.
Visitors to the 'Appearance of Beauty' exhibition are invited to explore the captivating world of '320° Licht', an experience not to be missed. The entire inner surface of the former gas holder has been illuminated with carefully-focused interlocking video projections, creating one moving wall of light that engages visitors on multiple sensory levels. Don't miss out on this immersive and awe-inspiring exhibition before it closes on 1 November 2015.
Incorporating cutting-edge technology, the 'Appearance of Beauty' exhibition features '320° Licht,' a home-and-garden transformation within the Gasometer Oberhausen, offering a unique immersive experience until 1 November 2015. This architectural light installation, created by URBANSCREEN, blends elements of lifestyle and technology, with the world's largest projection surface projecting monochrome, high-contrast geometric animations, providing an extraordinary visual spectacle.
