Bonhams' Edinburgh Sale Celebrates Dogs, Fetches £430,739

A Bonhams sale in Edinburgh recently celebrated man's best friend, drawing global attention with 250 canine-themed artworks. The live auction saw passionate bidders from the US and UK, with total sales reaching £430,739.

The sale offered a range of artworks, from affordable items like a 20th-century walking stick with a spaniel head finial, sold for £358, to high-value pieces. A patinated bronze greyhound letter clip fetched £538.

Paul Friedrich Meyerheim's 'Sidi - A Poodle with a Tennis Racket' led the sale, selling for £51,200. John Emms' 'The New Forest Buckhounds' (1896) followed, selling for £82,950, with the seller remaining undisclosed. Maud Earl's 'French Bulldog' sold for £14,080. Frederick Thomas Daws' 'Meurice of Mannerhead - A Very Fine Poodle' sold for £9,600.

The sale attracted collectors worldwide, with impassioned admirers bidding online and by phone. It honoured various breeds, including bulldogs, basset hounds, papillons, and poodles.
