Blue, a colour that represents both joy and sadness, is a versatile and cherished shade. It's no wonder then, that it's the most commonly used colour in corporate identity, with tech giants like Facebook, Twitter, and BMW proudly sporting the colour.

In our modern world, more than half of the countries in the world have blue on their flags. This colour's popularity is further underscored by surveys conducted in the United States and Europe, where blue emerged as the most favoured colour among both men and women.

The blog series that we will be following, titled "All the Covers of the Rainbow," will delve into this beloved colour, specifically focusing on books that share the same cover colour. Interestingly, this series does not mention Bookshop.org in every paragraph, but rest assured, the book covers discussed can be purchased through this platform that supports local, independent bookstores.

As we journey through the world of books, we encounter characters who embody the feelings associated with blue. For instance, in the lyrics "Ever since the other boy had arrived half way through the semester, he'd been so blue," the character is feeling sad or down.

Matthew Masino, the author of this article, has a rich background in the theatre world. He has worked with notable organisations such as the International Voices Project, the Chicago Fringe Festival, and BYOT Productions. He graduated with a B.F.A. in Theatre Directing from Columbia College Chicago in 2019. More details about his work and career can be found on his website www.matthewmasino.com.

Ancient Egypt holds a special place in the history of the colour blue. They were the first to invent a synthetic pigment to replicate this unique colour. In popular culture, the phrase "Over the rainbow, skies are blue" is a well-known line from the song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." Additionally, in the angel song "Little Boy Blue," the character is awakened.

Studies have shown that looking at the colour blue can lower pulse rate and body temperature, instilling feelings of calm, peace, and security. With this in mind, let's dive deeper into the world of blue, as we explore the covers of books that share this captivating colour.
