"Biodiversity-focused 'Insect Hotel' Workshops scheduled for July 12, 2025, in Jastrzeńbie-Zdrój"
In the heart of Jastrzębie-Zdrój, an extraordinary event took place on August 12, 2025, as part of the "Green Pulse of Silesia" project. The day was filled with the sounds of nature and the hum of creative minds at work, as eight participants of the Occupational Therapy Workshops (OTW) came together to build "Insect Hotels."
These unique structures, designed to provide shelter for beneficial insects, were at the heart of the day's activities. The workshops, organised in collaboration with Stellantis, aimed to promote sustainable practices and environmental conservation, while also offering a hands-on learning experience.
The "Insect Hotel" workshops served a dual purpose, combining occupational therapy with ecological education. Participants engaged in the creative process, fostering their manual skills and well-being, all while gaining a deeper understanding of the role of insects in ecosystems and learning how to protect them.
Throughout the day, participants explored ways to support insects in both urban and rural areas. They discovered the importance of pollinating and predatory insects, and learned about the crucial role they play in maintaining plant health.
The workshops focused on the construction of solid shelters for beneficial insects, with guidance provided on selecting materials, designing, and placing the insect hotels. By the end of the day, the eight participants had successfully constructed four solid shelters, each a testament to their hard work and dedication to the cause.
The "Insect Hotel" workshops were more than just a learning experience; they were a unique meeting with nature that brought together people from different backgrounds, united by a shared passion for sustainability and conservation. The event not only raised awareness about the importance of biodiversity and ecological balance, but also equipped participants with the knowledge they needed to create more insect hotels independently.
The "Green Pulse of Silesia" project, through events like the "Insect Hotel" workshops, is making a significant contribution to promoting biodiversity in the region. By combining practical learning with fun and engaging activities, the project is inspiring people to take action and make a difference, one insect hotel at a time.
- The Insect Hotel workshops, part of the "Green Pulse of Silesia" project, not only allowed participants to learn about environmental science and the importance of insects in ecosystems, but also provided a unique opportunity for them to practice their skills in environmental-science-based lifestyle choices, such as building homes-and-garden structures for beneficial insects.
- The construction of "Insect Hotels" not only served as a practical application of sustainable practices in home-and-garden settings, but also highlighted the importance of these structures in supporting insects in urban areas, thereby promoting environmental conservation and contributing to the overall health and balance of local ecosystems.
