Berlin's Pankow to Gain Green Timber Quarter with Residential, Retail, and Offices
A new quarter is set to transform Breiten Straße in Pankow, Berlin. The project, spanning 6,000 square meters, will rise on the former 'Kaufhallen-Brache' site, offering a mix of residential, commercial real estate, and retail spaces. The quarter will be a green, lively hub with public walkways and shops at ground level.
The quarter, planned to house around 80 apartments and offices, will stand three to five floors high, with a setback floor to accommodate wooden floors. Notably, the entire quarter will be constructed using timber, a surprising shift from initial plans by ANH Hausbesitz. A multi-story garage for 80 to 90 cars is also planned to reduce surface traffic.
The project will be connected to public transport via the U2 subway line extension. The district welcomes this development but urges coordination with the nearby 'Pankower Tor' project to avoid duplicating offers.
The new quarter on Breiten Straße in Pankow is set to bring a mix of residential, commercial real estate, and retail spaces to the area. With its timber construction, green spaces, and public transport connectivity, it promises to be a vibrant addition to the district. Construction is planned to proceed in parallel with the nearby 'Pankower Tor' project.
