Berlin's 'Alte Ziegelei' Park Transformed for IGA 2027
Berlin's 'Alte Ziegelei' park has undergone a transformation ahead of the IGA 2027. The Urban Greenery department and the Westphalia and Lippe State Association of the Small Gardeners e.V. have joined forces to redesign a section of the park, creating new paths and two ecologically valuable habitats.
The redesign includes a semicircular dry stone wall, constructed from Ruhr sandstone. This wall serves as the core of a 'Green Classroom', set to host environmental education and events. The wall also promotes biodiversity and offers seating for visitors.
Two new habitats have been created: a dry grassland area and a wet meadow. These additions will enhance the park's ecological value and provide spaces for local flora and fauna to thrive.
The project, involving the Zweckverband Internationale Gartenausstellung 2027 (IGA Berlin 2027) and local district authorities, is located in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district of Berlin at the time of the IGA opening. The redesigned 'Alte Ziegelei' park promises to be a green oasis, offering both educational opportunities and recreational spaces for visitors.
