"Berlin Zoo Successfully Names Its New Wild Boar Residents: Amy Schweinhouse"

In the heart of Berlin, at the northern edge of the Tegeler See, a unique trio of wild boars has made their home in a wildlife enclosure. The boars, named Amy Schweinhouse and Keiler Minogue, along with their offspring Ziros, have brought a charming cultural twist to the city's regional wildlife.

The names of these wild boars were chosen from a pool of public suggestions submitted on Instagram. Despite Keiler being a male boar, the names are a playful reference to the famous singers Amy Winehouse and Kylie Minogue. Amy, a one-year-old female boar, is named after the late soul singer, while Keiler, a two-year-old male, does not bear a reference to the pop singer Kylie Minogue.

Amy and Keiler arrived at the Tegeler See enclosure in April 2025, having been relocated from the city forest in Uelzen. Their arrival was preceded by a 11-week vacancy in the enclosure, due to a previous outbreak of wild and cattle disease. The conditions are now safe for the new residents, and the enclosure welcomes a new addition - a piglet named Ziros, born on June 26, 2025, during a severe storm night. The gender of Ziros remains unknown.

Meanwhile, at the Revierförsterei Spandau, a separate location from the Revierförsterei Tegelsee, a fawn named Max was born on June 23 in the fallow deer enclosure. The storm that occurred on the day of Max's birth influenced the naming of the new arrival. Max was initially lost in the storm chaos but was later found and is now being raised by a forester.

The presence of Amy, Keiler, and Ziros at Tegeler See helps maintain biodiversity and offers an attraction for visitors interested in Berlin's regional wildlife. Their arrival follows a difficult period in Berlin, as the storm caused significant damage, particularly in North Spandau, Heiligensee, and Tegel. In the Tegeler Forst, roads were temporarily impassable due to fallen trees or broken branches.

The Berlin Forests announced the names of the wild boars, adding a local engagement element to the story. The naming event highlights the connection between these wild animals and well-known pop culture figures, adding a unique charm to the enclosure. The animals' presence at Tegeler See is not only beneficial for biodiversity but also serves as an engaging attraction for visitors seeking to explore Berlin's regional wildlife.

In an effort to engage the public and pay homage to renowned pop culture figures, the trio of wild boars at Tegeler See is named with references to Amy Winehouse and Kylie Minogue. Amy, a soulful one-year-old female boar, was named for the late singer, while home-and-garden enthusiasts may find humor in Keiler's moniker, a two-year-old male boar named after Kylie Minogue herself, despite being a male.
