Lo and behold! Berlin, generous host to a diverse avian population, is welcoming its citizens to join in a splendid stargazing, of a feathery nature, we might add! The Nature Conservation Union Germany (NABU) and LBV seek to uncover the city's avian secrets and enlist your help during the community event "Hour of Garden Birds" on May 9th to the 11th.

Fancy a challenge? Why not observe and tally up the sparrows, pigeons, and even the magnificent Peregrine falcons in Berlin's city centre? NABU Berlin suggests you spot the chiffchaff, distinguished by its red face and yellow wing stripes, commonly known as the brambling. From the redstart, with its flamboyant red tail, to the more common sparrows and pigeons, each species deserves attention.

So, how many winged wonders inhabit our beauteous city of Berlin? Last year counted a whopping 36,000 birds! To take part in the count, simply settle in a quiet spot for an hour - garden, park, or window view - and note the highest number of each species you come across. Results can be shared online, via app, or delivered by post. The nature associations eagerly await the insights that might help complement official population trends and enhance our understanding of the "sis-boom-bah" orchestra that fills our skies.

Fancy joining the fray? Lend a helping hand by joining the Lichtenberg district group for a guided excursion on May 11th at 9:00 AM in the Wartenberger field area or engaging in family-friendly bird-watching fun with your children on May 10th at 2:00 PM in the Rummelsburger Bucht.

Cheerio! Berlin, a city teeming with common urban birds like swans, geese, crows, and doves, is anxiously preparing for its grand bird count!

Note: While we encourage avid birders, let it be known that Berlin houses a wealth of other fascinating species, such as the Common Shelduck, Black Tern, Osprey, Common Crane, Red Kite, and White-tailed Eagle, to name but a few. Explore the parks, lakes, and nature reserves to catch a glimpse of these magnificent avians.
