Bathhouse 'About Time' in Australia blends soft and harsh architectural styles
Nestled on the picturesque Mornington Peninsula, the 'About Time' bathhouse offers a unique blend of minimalist architecture and textural warmth, creating a harmonious sanctuary for wellness and relaxation.
The brainchild of Melbourne-based Studio Goss, the bathhouse is the vision of founder David Goss, who is also responsible for the finely tuned Cape Schanck house. This architectural masterpiece, featured in the bathhouse, was created as a family home for Nicci and Vic Kavals of Articolo Studios. The design draws inspiration from European sensibilities and specific works by French architecture firm Studio KO, seamlessly merging minimalist architecture with textural warmth and a connection to the environment.
The bathhouse design balances brutalist architecture and gentle natural patina, inspired by the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi. The result is a robust material palette of concrete, stone, and timber, complemented by textured surfaces such as flamed granite floors, curved stucco walls, coir matting, and monolithic timber and stone elements.
The interiors feature interconnected, flowing areas with magnesium pools, saunas, steam rooms, and enclosed treatment spaces. Facial treatments are provided by Little Company, a facial specialist with locations in Byron Bay and Collingwood, while holistic massages are offered by Still Beauty.
The bathhouse spans 1,000 sq m, formerly the headquarters of the Quiksilver clothing and accessories brand in Torquay. It offers more than just wellness services; subscribing to the bathhouse's newsletter provides daily inspiration, escapism, and design stories from around the world.
The 'About Time' bathhouse is more than just a wellness temple; it's an al fresco oasis where guests can enjoy a dip in the water in a generous garden area. Whether you're seeking relaxation, rejuvenation, or a touch of luxury, the 'About Time' bathhouse promises an unforgettable experience.
