Material Alchemists 2025: A Showcase of Emerging Design Talents at Milan Design Week
The Triennale di Milano played host to the Material Alchemists 2025 exhibition during Milan Design Week 2025. This event, a collaboration between StoneX, showcased 20 emerging designers and studios who are transforming various materials into innovative design objects.
The exhibition, which ran from April 7th to 13th, highlighted a new generation of designers skilled in manipulating materials, like recycled plastics, to create pieces that challenge conventional uses and aesthetics. One such example is Polygood®, a surface design material made from recycled content and featured prominently during the event.
The partnership with StoneX enabled this platform for young creatives to present works that embody environmental consciousness and innovative design processes. The exhibition featured modular design pieces, such as the Omi Series 2 Stool, that emphasized material experimentation.
The title "Material Alchemists" also serves as a collective noun for Wallpaper's Class of 2025, a diverse group of designers hailing from various locations such as Antwerp, Adelaide, Vancouver, and Vietnam. The exhibits spanned a spectrum from craft and artworks to high-performing quotidian objects.
The exhibition design, created by DWA Design Studio, used Polygood® panels from The Good Plastic Company, a leading manufacturer of surface materials made from fully recycled and recyclable plastic. All materials used in the exhibition design will be repurposed after the event.
StoneX, a family company and global purveyor of rare natural stone, has built close relationships with the world's finest quarry families and revealed the metamorphic stories of different stone varieties. The Material Alchemists exhibition showcases global emerging talents from the world of design, offering a unique opportunity to discover the future of design.
Some of the exhibitors in the Material Alchemists exhibition include Abid Javed, Agnes Studio, Ajay Shah, Alfred Lowe, Astraeus Clarke, Dina Nur Satti, Federico Stefanovich, Jiri Krejcirik, Kodai Iwamoto, Lennart Engels, Liam Fleming, Marc Sweeney, Michelle Jiaxin Huang, Miranda Keyes, Morii Design, Olorunfemi Adewuyi, Pauline Leprince, Sheyang Li, Steffany Tran, and Yoon Shun. Each exhibitor demonstrates a proclivity for material exploration and expression in their practice.
