Aschaffenburg's Cycling Success Renewed: Re-certified as 'Bike-Friendly' Until 2031
Aschaffenburg's commitment to cycling promotion has been recognised once again. The city, which has consistently invested around 1 million euros annually, has been re-certified as a 'Bike-Friendly Municipality' until 2031. This follows a decade of successful implementation of its cycling concept, which began in 2015.
The city's cycling network has seen significant improvements over the years. Recent projects include the expansion and renovation of the Main cycle path, the marking of the cycle street in Auweg, and the construction of a pedestrian and cycle path on the B 26 Darmstadter Street. These developments have helped close gaps in the route network.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the cycling concept, an image film was produced. It showcases the city's cycling initiatives and can be viewed on YouTube and Aschaffenburg's social media channels. The AGFK (Working Group on Bike-Friendly Municipalities in Bavaria) also acknowledged the city's efforts. In July 2025, they held a specialist excursion, attended by 35 cycling experts from across Bavaria. During the event, Holger Schmidt, deputy managing director of the AGFK, presented the certificate to Mayor Herzing.
Aschaffenburg's dedication to cycling promotion has not only improved the city's infrastructure but also earned it recognition. With continuous funding and successful projects, the city continues to make cycling an attractive and viable option for its residents and visitors alike.
