As the swimming season winds down, canines will be permitted to take a dip in the refreshing pool on the 7th of September.
The joy of summer isn't over yet for our four-legged friends, as several annual dog swimming events are scheduled for late summer and early fall 2025. One of these exciting events will take place at the NEW, where Fressnapf will have a stand and offer treats to the furry participants.
The community event, described as a celebration of dog love, attracted 956 dog and owner combinations last summer at the NEW. This year, the NEW is expecting a high number of visitors again. The joy is palpable on all sides during the event, with dogs splashing, swimming, and playing extensively, bringing their own toys, and extensively sniffing and playing with other furry friends.
The event marks the end of the outdoor swimming season at the NEW and is open only to friendly dogs with valid vaccinations and tax tags. Any dogs that misbehave in the swimming pool will be removed from the baths along with their owners. A leash requirement applies on the premises, but not in the water during the dog swimming event. Dogs must not be left unattended.
The Doglove dog school will provide dog therapies and first aid for dogs at this year's dog swimming event. In addition, a dog photographer, Daniel Wirth (AllesWirthgut), will be present to capture the memorable moments.
The animal protection association Mönchengladbach e.V. is confirmed as an exhibitor at this year's dog swimming event. Lukas Schierburg, the head of the bath service department at the NEW, expressed his excitement for the event.
Beyond the NEW, other cities across the globe are also hosting dog swimming events. For instance, in Frederick, MD, the Residences at Jefferson Place will host their annual dog swim on September 2, 2025. Participation details are yet to be specified.
In Alexandria, VA, the city is hosting a dog swim series with three sessions scheduled: August 16, 2025, at Memorial Pool; September 6, 2025, at Warwick Pool; and September 27, 2025, at Old Town Pool. Registration is required online, with proof of current rabies vaccination mandatory. The Memorial Pool event offers four 45-minute slots for dogs under 25 pounds.
The 19th Annual Big Splash Dog Swim in Avon Lake, OH, is organized by Love-A-Stray Dog Division and will be held on September 6, 2025. Preregistration is encouraged and offers separate entrance and a registration gift.
In Friendswood, TX, the Friendswood City Pool Dog Swim is scheduled for August 16, 2025, with a registration fee of $3 for residents and $5 for non-residents per dog.
Lastly, the 10th Annual Parks & Rex Dog Pool Party in Santa Cruz County, CA, is yet to announce specific date and time.
Prospective participants are advised to check directly with the host organization's website or contact points to confirm details and ensure compliance, as proof of current rabies vaccination is generally required, and some events have restrictions on dog size or behavior.
As the countdown begins, dog lovers across the region are gearing up for these exciting events, looking forward to creating unforgettable memories with their furry friends.
The upcoming dog swimming events at the NEW and other locations worldwide are not just for recreation but also serve as a celebration of the home-and-garden lifestyle, where pets are an integral part. These events provide an opportunity for dog owners to interact, exchange ideas, and learn about pet care, such as dog therapies and first aid, from organizations like Doglove dog school.
