Annual Gem-A Photographer Competition Resumes for the Year 2019!

The Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A) has announced the return of its annual photography contest, the Gem-A Photographer of the Year competition, for 2019. This competition focuses on macro and micro photography of gemstones, minerals, jewelry, and related subjects.

For the 2019 edition, the competition is open to both amateur and professional photographers worldwide. Participants are invited to submit original photographs that reflect gem, mineral, or jewelry subjects in digital format via the official Gem-A competition website or designated platform. Each participant can enter a limited number of images, usually up to 3-5.

Images are judged based on technical quality, creativity, and relevance to the theme. Entrants should note that they may need to provide their contact details and agree to terms regarding image ownership and usage rights. The competition closes around late summer or early fall, with the exact deadline varying each year.

To enter, photographers should prepare their best high-resolution digital images, register on the Gem-A website or competition portal, upload their entries following image specification guidelines, pay any entry fee if applicable, and submit before the deadline.

The overall winner of the Gem-A Photographer of the Year competition will receive a £300 voucher to spend at Gem-A Instruments and one year's free Membership of Gem-A. Two runners up will win a £50 Gem-A Instruments voucher. All three winning entries will be published in the Gems&Jewellery magazine.

Entries can include photographs of jewelry, gemstone beauty through photomicrography, or scenes from gemstone mining or trading. Winners could be featured on the cover, Last Impression, or Big Picture feature page of Gems&Jewellery.

Interested individuals with an interest in gemmology and a passion for photography are encouraged to visit the official Gem-A website or contact Gem-A directly for the precise 2019 competition rules and entry instructions. The competition is free to enter and will accept entries until August 30, 2019.

The winner will be announced on Gem-A's Facebook page shortly after the competition has closed. The competition has new rules, a new judging process, and new prizes, making it an exciting opportunity for photographers to showcase their work and win valuable prizes.
