Greenr Cafe has opened a new outpost in Breach Candy, Mumbai, that seamlessly blends the city's iconic Art Deco style with modern simplicity and sustainability. The 2,000 sq ft space, conceptualized by Studio Hohma's Devika Bhalla in collaboration with STaND Design, pays homage to Mumbai’s characteristic duality – where old and new coexist without fully letting go of either.
The design team, consisting of Devika Bhalla, Nikita D'Silva, and Siddhanth Tikkoo, worked in sync from day one to create a space that respects the Art Deco architectural cues of Mumbai while infusing them with Greenr Cafe's sustainable DNA and a modern minimalist aesthetic.
The design approach involved treating the cafe's location in an old load-bearing home as a key creative prompt, carving intimate, interconnected pockets throughout to encourage inclusivity and a homely atmosphere. Each space flows into the next, fostering a sense of togetherness and warmth.
Key design elements include the use of existing architectural features and materials to honor the past, incorporation of sustainable design practices aligned with the Greenr brand ethos, and a balance of elegance from Art Deco with clean, pared-down modern simplicity.
The new outpost features a garden patio, living room-like corners, and a health bar, reinforcing the homely and relaxed vibe within a stylish context that resonates with both historic Mumbai and contemporary sensibilities. This thoughtful integration results in a welcoming, vibrant space where the nostalgia of Mumbai's Art Deco heritage complements the contemporary emphasis on sustainability and simplicity.
